According to Eurostat, 38% of EU residents aged 15 and over did not engage in tourism in 2022. The highest non-participation rate was among those aged 65 and over, with 55% not taking any trips. Seniors (65+) were more likely to travel domestically (70%), taking longer trips (an average of 6.3 nights) and often staying in non-rented accommodation (53% of nights). This age group also helped reduce tourism seasonality, with 58% of their trips occurring outside peak months. Health concerns and lack of motivation were the main reasons for seniors not travelling.
